The Israeli Periodontal Society was founded in the 70's to encourage periodontal health care among the public, and to promote the professional and scientific knowledge of the society members.
The society was established by 16 founding members and today holds more than 100 members, among them are most of the periodontists in Israel.

In the year 2004, the society name was changed to "Israel Periodontal and Osseointegration Society".
The Israeli Periodontal and Osseointegration Society is responsible of spreading information regarding the causation and treatment of periodontal diseases, and regarding dental implants as a treatment modality for missing teeth.

The society organizes lectures and conventions for the dental community in Israel in order to distribute the latest innovations and understandings in periodontal health care and the use of dental implants.

In 1997, the society was accepted as an associate member of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) thus advancing Israel as part of the international community.

In 2007 The Isreali Periodontal and Osseointegration Society was accepted as a full member of the European Federation of Periodontology.
